There’s a lot of information on this page, including an example of the way social media analytics work. If you are considering employing a social media manager, it’s important to know all of what we will be able to provide you and your business.
I already have a social media person, why should I think about changing?
This is my favorite question! You may not need to. However, you should always stay informed about what your social media analytics are telling you. In short, ask yourself these questions:
- Has there been an increase in followers CONTINUALLY?
- Is engagement up? (Likes, comments, shares, etc.)
- Is there an increase in business?
If the answer is no, then your current social media manager is working for themselves and not for you. If you aren’t successful, then they are not beneficial. Advertising/social media is not a one and done, set it and forget it situation. It should constantly be moving forward and adapting to keep up with your audience.
I am a small business; I don’t think I can afford to hire someone to do something I can do myself.
I understand. Owning a business is a lot of work and to remain profitable, all expenses must matter. I am happy to provide a free consultation to discuss what I see as needing improvement (or none – you might be a social media rock star!). We can also create a plan based around a budget that works for you. If your budget changes from month to month, we can modify our monthly objectives. If you just you want to see if social media management actually works, we can do that too!
Social Media is for scrolling, not advertising. People see commercials and just scroll right on past without thought.
As much as I can see how that became such a common misconception, I disagree and millions of businesses do, too. I do agree that many people scroll past those obvious commercials. However, that is not what I specialize in. Those obvious commercials are paid for through the media site. Everything on your social media pages are advertisements. It is a peek into your business and what you do. Not everything has to be selling an item or service, but everything should speak to that. The thing that people love about small businesses are the people and processes behind the business. We all have a story to tell and we tell that story every day in our businesses and that reflects in our social media. When people start engaging with your social media, they become aware of your business, and they become invested in you and your success!
I don’t want to turn over my social media to someone else and lose control of it.
We NEVER take full controll of your pages. You add me as an additional admin so I can post but you should always have full access to your pages. You should always be able to take a peek behind the scenes, so to speak, and you should be allowed to reply to comments, as well as post your own items if you choose. It is yours and it should remain that way. I am here to help you succeed, not to control the way you conduct business in any way.
I don’t need to pay someone to create content. I can send you content and you can post it as scheduled.
This is true. What I have seen, however, is that the content creation isn’t always done with the big picture in mind. Videos and photography are very powerful tools if used correctly. In 100% of the creation of videos and photos editing SHOULD occur. There should always be a vision for that singular post and each post should fit into the larger vision for your company’s image. That is where we come in and create that plan, and then execute it so you don’t have to add that to your day.
What is content creation?
Content creation is exactly what it sounds like – the creation of content. I come to your place of business to take photos and videos. I then edit these to fit into the marketing plan and image creation for your business and post to your page(s). I monitor the post to ensure we are reaching your market.
I take photos and post them and I get likes. Why would I pay someone else to do that?
There is science behind the analytics of social media and you can absolutely monitor that informtation yourself. If you are comfortable with the amount of followers and the amount of engagement, then maybe you don’t need to pay someone. If your followers are not over 1,000 or you are having the bare minimum (>5%) of engagement (likes, comments, etc.), your business pages could benefit from some sprucing up.
What are analytics and how do they affect my business?
Analytics for social media is the gathering of information/data and analyzing the information to indicate how well your social media platform is performing. This information is provided in percentages and is calculated to indicate engagement. An increase in engagement has a direct impact on increase in your business’ visibility and new clientele.
An example of one of my clients is below:

As you can see, in December the client had 223 followers. I provided budget-friendly assistance to her for a couple of weeks in mid-January. From mid-January to the end of January she saw a 36.13% increase in followers. We decided to create a marketing plan for her at the end of January and by then end of February she had seen a 216.97% increase in followers with a continued rise into the beginning of March.
Why does TikTok matter?
TikTok is a great platform to show your audience who you are and what you do. It is an easy platform to have some fun with as it is video driven. Engagement on TikTok includes likes, comments, and shares. There are two ways to measure engagement percentage and that is based on video views and based on followers. When you analyze the data from the perspective of followers, it is important to note that though the numbers are rising it can be difficult to reach the percentage engagement that is suggested for successful content. This percentage is noted in the industry at approximately 1 to 5 percent. In my opinion, if you are paying someone to manage your page(s) I prefer to see the engagement sitting at around 5 to 10 percent (but we always strive for higher!).
Engagement percentage based on followers:
This client by the end of January had 324 followers. There were 1,550 video views and 157 actions of engagement (likes, comments and shares). This is an engagement percent based on followers of 48.45%.
This client on 3/02/23 had 1,274 followers. There had been 196,000 video views and 11,612 actions of engagement (likes, comments, and shares). This is an engagement percentage based on followers of 911.45%.
Engagement percentage based on video views:
The same numbers are utilized here as above however, now we will look at the engagement percentage based on total views and not followers as those who are not following your page can interact with your page. As you see the bigger the numbers, be it followers or views, the more it takes to hit that goal percentage!
January engagement percentage based on total views of 1,550 and 157 actions of engagement (likes, comments and shares) was 10.13%.
March engagement percentage based on total views of 196,000 and 11,612 actions of engagement (likes, comments and shares) was 5.93%.
How very different right? And why is this important? You should understand the numbers and what they mean across the board. It would be easy to say to my client in February the engagement of your page has increased 863%. But she could turn around and say no, it has decreased 4.2%. We would both be correct. What is a fact is the views from January to March has increased approximately 12,545%. She had a sharp increase in followers, and the followers continue to increase steadily. Some of the posts do better than others with an average based on views of over 5%. She is reaching her audience with the engagement percentage within her followers of 911.45%. And then of course there is why we do this in the first place, business at her shop is up and that is my end goal. If you are paying someone to manage your social media, both sets of percentages should be understood and discussed. As you can see, a simple report could indeed skew this in the marketing professional’s favor and you might be wondering if utilizing social media marketing is worth it. (It is!)
